What is involved in tracking a vehicle?
There are several components that make up a successful tracking system
- Tracking Device
- Machine to Machine (M2M) data conection
- Tracking Portal
All thee components must be present to allow tracking.
What is M2M
Machine to machine (M2M) is a broad label that can be used to describe any technology that enables networked devices to exchange information and perform actions without the manual assistance of humans.
What is the difference in Cellular/GPS and Satellite/GPS and dual mode Satellite/Cellular/GPS
Cellular/GPS – Transmitting a GPS location over the Cellular network
Satellite/GPS – Transmitting a GPS location over a Satellite network
Satellite/Cellular/GPS – Transmitting a GPS location over the Cellular network or when Cellular is unavailable sends over a Satellite network
Which unit is best?
There are many devices from many, many manufacturers, the two main components of a tracking device are
- Quality, what one has the best reputation and provides the best support
- M2M Connectivity method this is particularly important in rural and remote parts of Australia as not all service providers operate in all areas
- Type of antenna, again more important in rural and remote areas
Orbit Track staff will be able to advise on the most suitable device.
What happens if my vehicle drives out of cellular coverage?
Orbit Track devices will store up to 20,000 locations in their internal memory, when the device next comes into coverage it will upload the stored messages and the portal will add the locations to the map
Can I utilize a system with a mix of tracking devices / models?
Yes – Orbit track have a variety of devices we utilize to achieve the best and most cost effective service for our customers
Do I need a professional installer?
In most cases Yes, Orbit Track can provide installation instructions however can not take any responsibility for private installations.
How long after I order will my order ship?
We keep stock of all the devices we sell, we can generally program and dispatch within 24 hours
What if I have multiple locations/offices?
We have many customers with multiple locations, we can organize installation in the various locations and set up the Orbit Track Portal for multiple users with access levels that suit your organization.
Do I need to buy any software or pay software maintenance fees?
The software is provided and the access/maintenance fee is included in the tracking fee
What type of Internet Connection do I need?
Office, Home or Mobile data will all work, if you can browse the internet you will be able to access the Orbit Track Portal
What’s the difference between the antennas you offer for the devices / models?
Devices come with either internal or external antennas.
- Internal antenna devices are best suited to areas with good mobile coverage
- External antenna devices are necessary where in rural and remote areas
